Standing Beside History: Colonial Resistance and the Responsibility of Memory

Standing beside the exhibition of Rudolf Duala Manga Bell in Berlin prompted me to reflect on the intersection of identity, colonial history, justice, and responsibility. As a naturalized German citizen with Cameroonian roots, I see this history from a perspective shaped by both countries. Manga Bell's resistance to German colonial policies reminds us that historical memory is not merely about remembering the past. It also challenges us to consider how we respond to injustice, how we understand identity, and what responsibility history places upon us today.
